Massage Therapy/Therapuetic Massage:
Recent Medical Studies Show It To Be An Effective Treatment Providing Long-Lasting Benefits
It's official: According to the medical literature massage therapy can be a very effective treatment when done correctly with the proper expertise.
According to an article written in the Archives of Internal Medicine in April of 2001, "Therapeutic massage was effective for persistent low back pain, apparently providing long-lasting benefits".
In the Internal Medicine News in December of 1999 an article appeared which stated that, "Something is going on with massage that is fascinating and merits further study", and that, "Massage therapy produced a substantial and persistent benefit in the first ever randomized trial comparing it with two other alternative therapies for chronic low back pain; acupuncture and a state-of-the-art self care education program". In that same article it was noted that it was reasonable to provide access to chiropractic manipulation, massage and acupuncture for low back pain. [Pictured Above: Jasmine from Jasmine Thai Massage]
An article in the Archives of Surgery in 2007 concluded that massage is an effective and safe adjuvant therapy for the relief of acute post-operative pain for patients undergoing major operations."
Finally, an article in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2006 studied massage therapy for treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee, and concluded that, "Massage therapy seems to be efficacious in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Further study of cost-effectiveness and duration of treatment effect is clearly warranted."
